LADYSMITH, Wis. (WEAU) – Police arrested a man who’s accused of stabbing another man several times with a knife during the weekend.

Ladysmith Police Chief Al Lobermeier says officers responded to a house on Miner Avenue East just after 6 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses reported that the victim, Erick Kowalski, 19, of Ladysmith, had left the home and went to the hospital. Police say Kowalski ended up with three knife wounds to the chest or abdomen and a cut on the inside of his left wrist. Lobermeier says Kowalski’s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

They arrested Robert Charles McGinn, 55, of Ladysmith for Attempted Homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon and Injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon. Lobermeier says McGinn was in jail as of Monday afternoon.

Officers recovered the folding knife that Lobermeier says was used in the stabbing. He says officers are still gathering information on what led up to it. No criminal charges have been filed in the case, but police say reports have been forwarded to prosecutors. McGinn is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
