Teen hit by van in Barron Co.

(WEAU) - A teen was hit by a van Monday in Barron County

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department says it happened around 9:20 Monday morning on Highway 48 near 8th Street. John Richie, 13, from Cumberland was hit by the van, driven by Edith Marek, 67.

The sheriff’s department says the boy was out getting the mail when he was hit by the van. Richie was flown to children's hospital in Minneapolis and is in serious but non-life threatening condition.

On Monday, July 22, 2013, at 9:18 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a car vs. pedestrian accident on Hwy 48 near 8th St.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cumberland Ambulance, Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department and Mayo Helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was determined that John Richie, 13 from Cumberland, was getting the mail and was struck by a van traveling east on Hwy 48 operated by Edith Marek, 67 from Milltown.

Richie was flown to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis and is serious but non-life threatening condition.
