CHETEK, Wis. (WEAU) -- As crews combed the track on Monday, putting the pieces of a derailed train back together, Kevin Retzloff sat parked across the street amazed at the sight of ten train cars carrying sand that slid off the tracks in Chetek.

His brother saw and heard it happen when he was plowing snow down the street.

"So he sat and was in disbelief," he said.

Word got around town quick. Cars took turns parking along the highway and nearby lots to watch, including Retzloff after he had heard about it.

"Most of the excitement we will see for a while around here," he added.

The Progressive Rail Line CEO, who was not available to talk on camera, told us by phone the company is still investigating how the accident happened and how much it will cost to fix.

But he added, no one was injured.

"I guess I can't really describe the sound, it was just loud," said Brittany Johnson, who witnessed the derailment.

"I saw a train going and watched it, and next thing you know it started shaking and the cars were down," she said.

She called it one of the most interesting things she has seen in her life, being there for something so out of the ordinary.

"It was shocking, just because that normally doesn't happen," she said.

The Progressive Rail Line CEO added they are hoping to have the line open again sometime between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
