UW-Eau Claire launches investigation into former football coach

Eau Claire, Wis. (WEAU) -- UW-Eau Claire football fans may remember the name, the face of the man who led the Blugolds from 1999 to 2005.

Now, Todd Hoffner is under investigation. And UW-Eau Claire has launched its own investigation.

"It's not that we anticipate something is gonna be there, but these are really serious allegations, so if there's something we missed while he was here we need to know about it now," said Teresa O'Halloran, the Affirmative Action Director at UW-Eau Claire.

She says they have already started the investigation, looking into a central personnel file. So far, she says there have not been any red flags.

"I'll be trying to uncover any additional documentation that we have in regards to this guy's doing," she said.

Investigators say the videos of naked children were found on Hoffner's work phone. But O'Halloran says trying to uncover any electronic items from Hoffner's past at UW-Eau Claire will be next to impossible.

"Our computers cycle out every five years, so that computer is likely gone," she added.

She says in the coming days the investigation will focus on people. Players, coaches, co-workers, anyone who worked with Hoffner.

O'Halloran says the mindset of this investigation is not necessarily looking for something specific, but rather something that could have been missed in the past.

"We don't anticipate on finding anything, but if we do, the direction we take with that item is gonna depend on what it is," she added.

Some news organizations have decided to reveal who the children are. We are currently not giving out that information to protect minors involved.
