EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A semi driver collapsed and died after checking on victims of a crash involving that man’s semi and a pickup truck with a trailer.
The crash happened Thursday night. The Wisconsin State Patrol says the two vehicles collided on an icy stretch of I-94 west near the North Crossing exit after the pickup lost control. They were both going the same direction. The semi slid into the median. The pickup ended up in the right ditch. Nobody was hurt.
The semi driver, who is from Michigan, walked across the freeway, checked on the people in the pickup, then collapsed. A trooper responded and performed CPR on the man until an ambulance got there. He passed away at the hospital. His name hasn’t been released.

Claire County during last nights storm. A semi and a pickup pulling a trailer had collided, when the pickup lost control on the icy roads. Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction. The semi slid into the median and the pickup slid into the right ditch. There were no injuries.
The semi driver walked across the interstate to check on the occupants of the pickup. As the occupants of the pickup reassured the semi driver they were okay, the semi driver suddenly collapsed. A State Trooper arrived on scene shortly after the semi driver collapsed. The trooper performed CPR on the semi driver until the ambulance arrived. The semi driver was transported to a local hospital in Eau Claire, where he passed away later that evening.
The semi driver drove for Holland Special Delivery out of Hudsonville, Michigan. The driver was also from Michigan. The name is being held until notification of next of kin.

Crews from Township Fire responded to I-94 on the west edge of Eau Claire for a crash between a semi and pick-up truck. There's no word on what led up to the crash or if anyone was hurt.
There was also a rollover on Highway 53 south of River Prairie Drive. Township firefighters say the driver of the pick-up had to be pulled from the vehicle and taken to the hospital. There's no word on injuries.
The State Patrol told us Thursday night that troopers worked 17 crashes and 25 slide ins in the Eau Claire region Thursday and at the Tomah post they told us they were very busy.
