MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch has selected a Wisconsin State Patrol veteran to serve as the Capitol Police's next chief.
David Erwin has spent 16 years with the State Patrol, serving as captain of the Dignitary Protection Unit and commander of the State Patrol Air Support Unit. He also spent 11 years with the U.S. Marines and is a licensed pilot.
Huebsch says Erwin will earn $99,386 per year and will start immediately.
The Capitol Police are responsible for protecting the Capitol building and other state government buildings in Madison and Milwaukee.
Erwin replaces former Capitol Police Chief Charles Tubbs, who resigned in April to take a job as Dane County's new emergency management director.
