Wis.-based Skyward announces expansion plans

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) -- A Stevens Point company plans to expand after deciding to stay in Wisconsin.

Leaders of Skyward Inc. celebrated Wednesday with community members and elected officials.

Officials of the information system company say they were able to stay in Wisconsin thanks to a bill supported by both Republican and Democratic lawmakers.

Skyward had threatened to leave Wisconsin if it didn't win the contract to run a new statewide student information system.

The Legislature's budget committee voted to essentially undo a contract won by a Minnesota company to run the system. Instead, multiple companies including Skyward could provide the services.

Skyward expects to add more than 1,000 jobs during the next 10 years. The company hopes to break ground next spring on an expansion project to house those employees.
