The Chippewa Valley Symphony presents the Young Artist Competition concert March 9.
Eau Claire, March 9, 2013 – The Kristo Orthodontist 2013 Young Artist Competition winner, Olivia Langby of Eau Claire, WI , will perform with the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Nobuyoshi (Nobu) Yasuda on March 9, at the State Theatre in Eau Claire (7:30PM).
Ms. Langby was one of five finalists competing for the Kirsto Young Artists prize. She won the first place prize with a performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor first movement. Olivia is the daughter of Leah and Dean Langby of Eau Claire and she is a junior at Memorial High School.
Jordan Stokka of Eau Claire won second place with his performance of Saint-saens: Concerto No. 2, Mvt. I, Andante sostenuto and James Li ofLadysmith placed third with his performance of Beethoven: Concerto No. 3, op. 37, Mvt. III. Rondo. Allegro.
The Kristo Young Artist Competition is sponsored by Kristo Orthodontist Specialists and is open to young musicians between 14 and 18 years of age. Each contestant must perform a movement of a Concerto or an Aria. The music must be of similar difficulty and be approximately 8 to 16 minutes in length. Recordings are submitted in December and a panel of judges selects the finalists. The finalists perform their music in January before the judges and an audience at the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.
