The Chippewa Valley Community Chorus presents upcoming concerts.
The Chippewa Valley Community Chorus (CVCC), established in 1977, has been performing for over 30 years. We have from 50 to 60 members, with a wide range of musical abilities. Most are residents of Chippewa Falls, but we do have members who travel from other communities around the Chippewa Valley to sing. Anyone who likes to sing is welcome! The Chorus holds rehearsals every winter, beginning just after the first of the year, leading to two performances in Chippewa Falls in the early spring. Our programs have included all types of music: classical, religious, popular, gospel, rock, . . .
Our director, Cathy Reitz, sings locally and gives private voice lessons at the Eau Claire Music School. Our accompanist, Anne Kubiatowicz, graduated from UW Eau Claire with a degree in Piano Performance. She has taught for 30 years and currently has a private piano studio.
This year’s concert, “From the Sacred to the Swinging,” is a program of contrasts. In the first half we will perform sacred music ranging from simple traditional tunes, to moving arrangements of American hymns (with Judy Lies and Anne Kubiatowicz in dual piano accompaniment), to new music by local composer Jerry Way. In the second half we switch gears and are joined by Troppo Big Band jazz orchestra, under the direction of Robert Heintz Sr., in a selection of music from the big band era.
Performances will be on Saturday, March 9, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 10, at 2 p.m. at the Chippewa Valley Cultural Association Heyde Center for the Arts (3 South High St. in Chippewa Falls, WI 54729). Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for youths, and may be purchased online (http://www.cvca.net), by telephone from the Chippewa Valley Cultural Association (715-726-9000), or at the ticket office at the Heyde Center on the day of the performance.
