UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension, in partnership with Healthy Communities of Eau Claire County, will present three programs relating to obesity, featuring "The Weight of the Nation", an HBO documentary that highlights obesity as an urgent public health issue.
The documentary focuses on case studies and interviews with leading experts, as well as individuals and families struggling with obesity. After the documentary screening, a panel discussion about how individuals, communities and agencies can work together to reduce obesity rates will be held.
The university event will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Woodland Theater of Davies Center. It is designed for UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout students, faculty and staff.
The health and wellness professional event is designed for nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physicians, social workers, therapists, clergy members, educators, registered dietitians, and other health and wellness professionals. It will be held from 7-10 a.m. Nov. 8 in the Sacred Heart Hospital Rotunda.
The community event will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Sacred Heart Hospital Auditorium.
Dr. William Klish, a UW-Eau Claire alumnus and professor emeritus of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, will present and participate in the panel discussions. He is an expert in pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition and obesity.
The university and community events are free. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided. The cost for the health and wellness professional event is $10 per person.
