Sacred Heart Hospital offers free “Hands-Only CPR” class
Eau Claire, WI – Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and one of the leading causes of disability in Wisconsin. In 2007 alone, cardiovascular disease accounted for 32% of all deaths in our state. The good news is that there is something we can do to help change these startling statistics: Learn “hands-only” CPR. According to the American Heart Association, most people who experience cardiac arrest at home, work or in a public location die because they don't receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. The American Heart Association states that CPR more than doubles a person’s chance of survival.
On February 23, Sacred Heart Hospital will be offering free “hands-only” CPR classes at Florian Gardens (2340 Lorch Ave., Eau Claire). The sessions will be offered at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and
3 p.m., and all sessions will offer the same information. These classes are open for anyone who wants to learn and is able to get up and down from the floor. This class is not a CPR certification class. This class is ideal for students, new parents, families, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life using the “hands-only” technique.
Families and friends are encouraged to register together. A minimum of two people can register to be in a group. During the class, the groups will watch a video and will then take turns learning the technique within their small groups. Each group will be given one free American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR Anytime Kit to take home with them.
The event is free, but registration is required by February 22. To register, call (715) 717-1600.
