EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Sonia Kovalevsky High School Mathematics Day, or “Math is Fierce,” is a day of encouraging girls to get involved in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) programs, specifically math and science. It's done through workshops and discussions and math fun.
UW-Eau Claire Mathematics Professor Dandrielle Lewis and a colleague applied for a grant from the Association of Women and Mathematics and received it. It is now going toward a program called "Math is Fierce." It's on Saturday, April 13th, from 8:30 am. – 3:10 p.m. at UW-Eau Claire. Female teachers and girls from high schools all across are invited.
There will be math workshops, competitions, and a panel and discussion on math and science after high school. There are fun activities for teachers and girls, like math, geocaching, the magic of origami, prizes for those who attend, and more.
