Eau Claire, WI (WEAU) -- Heading to the farmers market in Phoenix Park is a regular event for many people, but while picking up fresh produce, there's also an opportunity to support local artists.
The side by side to the farmers market is the artist market, a place for artists to showcase and sell their work. Jamie Kyser, co-owner of Tangled Up In Hue, saw the new opportunity for downtown three years ago.
Kyser says, "It kind of started when my business partner and I were a part of the artists at the Farmers market and we saw a great need for more art down here, we had such a great response every time we were there and we were only allowed to be there a couple times a year, so we really wanted to be here more.”
She says it's a win-win for customers, artists, and our local economy.
Kayser says, “The importance is to support the local economy and support local artists anything handmade is always good for gifts. I think it's good for festival goers as well, people enjoy walking around and enjoy events like this.”
Take a look around and you'll find all types of art. Denise Anderson, the owner of C.C. Purses says she makes travel purses. She says this event has helped boost business, and gotten her products out in front of the community.
Anderson says, “I'm so thrilled that Tangled Up In Hue took the time to organize this, I'm just thrilled.
Deb Theusch, owner of Nature's Creations says events like this give artist’s confidence.
Theusch says, “It’s showcasing the artist in the area, if you can come down here and meet people, showcase and get some confidence in your product."
But even more than that, Theusch says there's one main reason she and the artists are here. Theusch says, “We're in it for the people, we're in it for the people."
Kyser says any artist within 40 miles of Eau Claire can participate. She says you can check out all the featured artists, until September.
