Annual Jazz Festival Features Eau Claire Native Geoffrey Keezer
Eau Claire Jazz, Inc. will bring world-class jazz back to Eau Claire during the 46th Annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival, with headliner concerts featuring Claudio Roditi and Eau Claire native Geoffrey Keezer on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Eau Claire Memorial High School. The festival is sponsored by Charter Bank, Chilson, Inc., JAMF Software, Maverick Media, Morgan Music, Pain Clinic of Northwestern Wisconsin, Ramada, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, US Bank, and Wisconsin Public Radio.
The Friday headliner concert will also feature UW-Eau Claire alumni band, Triosé, from 7-7:30 p.m. The Saturday concert will open with UW-Eau Claire student band, Malonious Thunk, from 6:30-7 p.m.
Jazz fans of all ages are invited to the headliner shows. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased at www.eauclairejazz.com, by calling 715-836-4092 or at the door.
Claudio Roditi is a Brazilian trumpet artist and a composer/arranger that has over twenty critically acclaimed albums and a Grammy nomination. He has performed with people such as Joe Henderson, Charlie Rouse, Herbie Mann and the United Nations Orchestra. Currently, he performs with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, a Gillespie tribute group. He also leads his own bands and tours worldwide as a featured performer in a wide variety of musical settings.
Geoffrey Keezer is a accomplished and experienced pianist from Eau Claire. Keezer's professional career has spanned many projects while continuing to work in collaboration with world class musicians from diverse genres. Geoffrey's 2009 recording, "Áurea,” was nominated for a Grammy award in the "Best Latin Jazz Album" category. In 2010, he was nominated for another Grammy award for his arrangement of "Don't Explain" for singer Denise Donatelli.
52nd Street Celebration Returning to Downtown Eau Claire
For the second year in a row, the Eau Claire Jazz Festival will include the 52nd Street celebration on Friday, April 5 from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Barstow Street. Community members and those attending the festival are encouraged to go from place to place to hear great music in the old style as it was back in New York City in the middle of the last century, when jazz was forming and growing.
Other Festival Events
This year’s festival is also packed with a variety of educational opportunities, multiple live performances, clinics for students, and special jazz events throughout the city. The festival will also feature two full days of competition for all size middle, high school, and college bands.. All of these activities will take place in UW-Eau Claire’s new Davies Student Center.
