The Red Cross says it's close to wrapping up its efforts for Hurricane Katrina storm relief.

The organization says it's distributed nearly $200 million in long-term aid since Katrina struck in 2005.

Now the Red Cross plans to move toward its more traditional roles.

That's responding to short term relief and educating people on first aid and water safety.

The organization will keep several case managers long term to continue with families with ongoing needs.

Nothing but crooks! There WAS a program where monies collected were supposed to go to victims who lost EVERYTHING(house, job, family). When some of us survivors found out, we called to inquire and said there was no such program. I insisted that there was a program and I knew they were instructed to tell us there wasn't one. An automated message came on when dialing the 800 red cross number and immediately said that Katrina victims need not bother to inquire about the program because there was none. But I insisted and the worker started taking all my information. Then, at the end of the conversation I asked him how long could I expect a response. He said usually it would take 2 weeks and we could receive money not long after. That's when I accused him of lying to me. If there wasn't a program, then why did he tell me I would receive an answer in 2 weeks and money? Many websites claimed there was over 20 million set aside for this program and no one knows where the money went!
