You do the public a great disservice when you only tell them part of a story. Debt collectors can only call once per day. They cannot collect anything unless the debtor agrees to pay them. Sending them any money automatically constitutes an agreement. If asked for a VALIDATION, that is, competent evidence of a contractual agreement, if there is no signed contract between the debtor and the collector, the collector must stop pursuing the debt,(pursuant to the Statute of Frauds). The collector MUST provide it within 30 days of the request. Google the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and read it! Most debt collectors never have.
