High school football, Coulee conference action opens up Friday night when undefeated Black River Falls hosts 2-2 West Salem. A win for the Tigers would move them to a perfect 5-0 on the season. Sports Reporter Matt Queen caught up the Tigers this week as we continue with a look at Our Town Black River Falls.
"We believe."
"We believe in 2009."
"You gotta believe that you're going to win every game."
Two simple words. The seeds of success sewn at the end of last season that have blossomed into a 4-0 start.
Jim Bible/Tigers Head Coach: "If you don't talk about winning, maybe they won't do it."
Black River Falls is coming off back-to-back one-point victories. Two weeks agao, the Tigers overcame a 12-point deficit against Nekoosa, and last Friday, it was six as they knocked off Wautoma, the defending Division 4 state champs.
Conrad Bragee/Tigers Offensive Lineman: "Everybody was so jacked up. It was the best win."
Jordan Tranberg/Tigers Quarterback: "One point games...we try not to make those happen, but when they do, I'm glad to see our team get those out and get through it."
Games in the past that would have been losses are being turned into wins. Something you can only do when you've been there before.
Bible: "With experience comes awareness. It gives them belief. We've bene in two one-point games, and they're on the sidelines and you could see...they weren't going to lose."
Matt Queen/Reporting: "The Tigers undefeated start is especially meaningful to the group of seniors that are trying to bring this program back. Two years ago, the Tigers won just two games. Last season, they won four, and this year, they've already matched that mark. And they think the belief in each other can bring Black River Falls a Coulee conference championship."
Bragee: "To go undefeated in conference...it would mean everything to everybody."
Adam Nichols/Tigers Linebacker: "I'm going to do my job, you're going to do your job. We believe in each other, things are going to get done."We believe if we do everything, things are going to go well for us."
