(WEAU) - It's been a deadly week on Wisconsin waterways.
Tuesday, the DNR is warning people that the ice in many places isn't thick enough to support a person, much less any kind of vehicle.
Just this week a man from Stratford, a man from Oshkosh and a man from Warrens went through the ice and died. Tuesday night, Monroe County investigators have identified the warrens victim as James Potter, 74.
The DNR says before going out, know what you're getting into. Bill Yearman, Recreation Safety Warden with the DNR, says "Be careful, if you think it's enough ice out here, drill a hole and see what you've got or use a spud and feel your way there, talk to bait shop owners, they probably know enough information from fisherman on how much ice is there.”
The DNR also says you shouldn't go out on ice at night because of the inconsistency of the ice at the moment and you need to wait to find a fishing spot on a new lake until it gets colder.
