TOWN OF SPRINGWATER, Wis. (AP) -- A 71-year-old man has died while hunting turkeys alone on a friend's land in central Wisconsin.
The Waushara County sheriff's office got a 911 call Thursday that a hunter had been found with a gunshot wound in woods on private property in the Town of Springwater.
Authorities arrived and found the hunter was dead. A deputy coroner determined he had died of a single gunshot from a 12-gauge shotgun recovered at the scene.
The hunter is identified as Alvin Mattison of Brown Deer. The sheriff's office says there is no evidence that anyone else was involved in the shooting.
The Wisconsin DNR will handle any further investigation.
