Some students in the UW system are going on a symbolic three day hunger strike to protest state budget cuts.

The Progressive Student Association at UW-Eau Claire says tuition is expected to go up 13 percent in the next biennium, which translates to more than $800 per student.

Students say they want the state to freeze tuition at its current levels to keep college affordable for more Wisconsin families.

"I think that you can share that across the board a lot better than just basically what seems to be targeting college aged students," says Brian Vander Kamp, a junior.

Organizers estimate 25 students will only drink water and have vitamins until Thursday.
