About 300 people showed up at the School Board meeting in Durand Wednesday night to hear and give input on options as the district faces a possible three quarter-million dollar budget shortfall next year.

They talked about several options and ultimately decided on a twofold plan.

Interim Superintendent Jerry Walters says they'll take money out of a general fund and will keep all programs and buildings for the next school year, but for the 2006-2007 school year, Walters says schools will be consolidated, closing one of the three schools in the district.

Over this next year, they'll look at the buildings and likely decide to close either the elementary or middle school. He says the discussion lasted about three hours.
