ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Garrett Loomis signs with Marquette

In June, Garrett Loomis of River Falls finished 5th at the WIAA state golf championship. As Justus Cleveland explains in tonight's Gordy's athlete of the week, that great finish at state was just the beginning of a great summer for Loomis.

River Falls Garrett Loomis has skill holding a golf club, be it shots on the course...or entertaining his entire high school.

It's that skill on the course that helped the River Falls senior get a chance at playing college golf at Marquette.

"I am pretty excited about that. It 's been a long process the past couple of years, communicating with different colleges. Glad it came down to Marquette. Looking forward to it."

Earlier this month Garrett Loomis followed in the footsteps of PGA tour players Marc Wilson and Steve Stricker when he won state junior championship down in Madison.

"It's pretty special. I always kind of dreamed of it. The day before the final round I read all the names on the trophy and tried to picture mine on there. Fortunate enough everything worked out the next day and I am on it with them.

As for someday playing on the PGA tour, Loomis feels that could be in his future.

" I think the biggest moment this year is when i watched Adam Scott win the masters. It was pretty motivating. I want to go through the same experience he went through. I write down my goals, I have them hanging on my mirror and that is where I want to be for sure.
