Chippewa Falls, WIS. (WEAU)-Evie Schaller, the Cardinals shortstop said, “I just don’t really think about it. I just go up there knowing what I can do and do what I can do.”

What Chippewa Falls shortstop Evie Schaller is capable of doing, is hitting a grand slam in a 2012 state tournament game, setting a state record for the most RBI’s in a single game at seven, and a state record for the most home runs by a single player in the state tournament; all this while leading the Cardinals to the school's first team state title.

“You know when you have a three hitter like Evie, who you know you can count on almost every game to come through with a pretty big hit, to drive some runs in. And then when you surround her with the hitters that we were able to surround her with this year, it makes it even that much better because it’s hard to pitch around her,” said Jared Faherty, the Cardinals' Head Softball Coach.

With a batting average of .516, including 17 home runs and 54 RBI’s, Evie chooses to let her numbers do the talking, and her team is all ears, as the humble slugger's defense was also impressive with a .932 fielding percentage.

Faherty said, “She’s been a leader for us this whole year and even the last couple of years in a quiet way. I think she always led even without being necessarily thought of as her being the leader.”

Deanie Schaller, Cardinals' outfielder and Evie's sister said, “It makes me want to be as good as she is and she really helps the team out a lot. And I just want to be like her when I get up to that level.”

“She’s being there to push us all and she’s greatly improved and she’s the reason why we won this, " said Val Hayes, Cardinals' infielder.

Evie was honored as the 2012 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Division 1 Player of the Year.

Schaller said, “I plan on just getting myself better on defense and offense still and helping our team go to state and win again. And after, I’m hoping to play D1.”
