Prince Fielder hit two more homers and the Milwaukee Brewers climbed within two games of the NL Central lead by blasting St. Louis 9-1. The first place Cubs lost to Florida 4-2 in Miami.
The 23-year-old Fielder became the youngest major league player to hit 50 homers in a season. He launched a two-run blast in the first before reaching the 50-homer mark with another two-run shot in the seventh.
Rickie Weeks led off the game with a homer and Bill Hall added a three-run shot to help the Brewers improve their chance of reaching the postseason for the first time in 25 years.
Former Cardinal Jeff Suppan gave up nine hits but only one run over eight innings to improve to 11-and-12.
The loss goes to 12-and-12 Braden Looper, who was torched for seven runs and seven hits in five innings.
