Errors Costly as Brewers Boot Chance To Gain on Cubs

The San Diego Padres remain the NL wild-card leaders after they took advantage of five Milwaukee errors in a 9-5 win over the Brewers.

The Padres scored four unearned runs and used a pair of four-run rallies to take a 9-2 lead. Ryan Braun made three errors for the Brewers, who remain two games behind the Central-leading Cubs with three to play.

Scott Hairston opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run double that was misplayed by left fielder Geoff Jenkins, allowing a third run to score. Prince Fielder's error at first led to an unearned run in the fourth. Braun made two errors in a four-run seventh that allowed the Padres to pull away.

Hairston finished with three RBIs and Khalil Greene hit a two-run single as the Padres stayed a game behind the West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks.

Rickie Weeks homered twice and had three ribbies for the Brewers.

Joe Thatcher improved to 2-and-1 while Yovani Gallardo dropped to 9-and-5.
