Blugolds women's soccer team beats St. Olaf in season opener
The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team won their season and home opener Wednesday afternoon, getting two second half goals to beat St. Olaf 2-0.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Courtesy: UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team kicked off the 2010 season with a 2-0 victory over St. Olaf College (Minn.) at the Bollinger Fields today.
While the teams played even in the first half, the Blugolds scored the game’s first goal less than 10 minutes into the second. The goal came from Lisa Marco (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) on a free kick from 25 yards out.
Less than four minutes after the first goal, Rachel Nerison (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) put the Blugolds up by two after scoring with an assist from Paige LeGate (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port).
The Blugolds managed to outshoot the Oles 14-8, 7-3 in the second half and 7-5 in the first half.
Joan Mattheisen (Fr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) played all 90 minutes in-goal for the Blugolds and recorded four saves on the day. St. Olaf’s Elizabeth Huggins stopped nine Blugold shots while she also played the entire contest.
Up next, the Blugolds will head to St. Louis, Mo. for two games this weekend. They will face Calvin College (Mich.) at 2 p.m. Saturday and will follow with a game against Washington-St. Louis (Mo.) at 2 p.m. Sunday.
