ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 1, 2010) - The University of St. Thomas' Anna Strehlow scored an unassisted goal 3:21 into the first sudden-death overtime to lift the host Tommies (1-0) over UW-Stout (0-1) in Wednesday's season-opening game in St. Paul.

It marked the second year in a row the Tommies topped Stout in overtime after a scoreless regulation.

For Stout, freshman Whitney Fenne (Fr, Columbus, Minn) was in goal and made seven saves. Callan Faulkner played the last 48:21 in goal for the Tommies and had six saves.

St. Thomas just missed converting on deflection by a Stout defender in the final minute of the first half. UST appeared to scored a goal midway through the second half but it was negated by offsides. Stout had a good scoring chance with 90 seconds left in regulation with a ball just out of the box, but USTs Faulkner won the race to a free ball to deflect it, and teammmate Tess Hanson cleared it out.

Last season, the Blue Devils lost 10 games by one goal.

The Blue Devils will travel to Duluth, Minn., this weekend to play in the Advantage Emblem Cup at St. Scholastica. Stout will open with Northland College, Friday, Sept. 3, and will play Concordia-Moorhead, Saturday, Sept. 4.
