Menomonie Advances To Level Three

The Menomonie Indians football team let a 14-point lead slip away against Wausau East, but scored late in the 4th quarter and stopped a game-winning two-point conversion to win 28-27 and advance in the WIAA Division 2 State Football Playoffs.

Menomonie held a 21-7 lead at halftime thanks to touchdown runs from Isaac Harris and Jake Wilson. But Wausau East came back to tie the game in the 3rd quarter on a 72-yard touchdown run by Nick Zillman.

The Indians took the lead for good in the 4th quarter when Jared Sawle hit Jon Heimler on a 31-yard touchdown pass to move ahead 28-21.

The Lumberjacks scored a touchdown with three seconds left in the game, but missed a two-point conversion. Menomonie moves on to play Lakeland in a Level 3 playoff either Friday or Saturday.
