The Eau Claire Express released today their 2008 Northwoods League schedule. After opening up on the road for the last two years, the Express will open the 68-game season at Carson Park on May 29 versus the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The Express travel to Wausau the following evening to complete the home-away series. Both games start at 6:35 p.m.
Eau Claire’s first weekend home game takes place June 20 against the Woodchucks. That game will be the first of nine home games over a 10-day span. The Express are at home every Saturday in July.
The first rematch of the 2007 Northwoods League Championship Series will take place in Eau Claire on July 4 and 5 when the Express host the St. Cloud River Bats. The Express travel to St. Cloud on August 4 and 5 as part of an eight-game road trip that spans four cities in nine days.
This year’s all-star game will take place in Madison on Monday, July 14. Due to recent league expansion, the Express will not face either the Duluth Huskies or the Rochester Honkers this season.
Monday through Saturday home games will start at 6:35 p.m. The only two exceptions are 6:05 p.m. starts on June 12 and July 4. Sunday game times will be at 6:05 p.m.
The Northwoods League season begins two days earlier than it did in 2007. However, the regular season will end only one day earlier as all teams have been given an extra day off. The Express close out the season at home against the Green Bay Bullfrogs on August 10 and 11. Divisional playoffs begin on August 12 with the Northwoods League Championship Series beginning on Friday, August 15.
