Despite poor free-throw shooting, Wisconsin tops Valparaiso 68-58

Wisconsin had a terrible night at the free-throw line, but the Badgers managed to overcome sloppy play to beat Valparaiso 68-58 Saturday night.

The 9-2 Badgers hit just 17 of 36 free throw, or 47 percent. They came into the game hitting almost 70 percent of their foul shots.

Valparaiso led for most of the game, until Wisconsin's Trevon Hughes hit a 3-pointer with just over two minutes left. That keyed a 14-4 run that iced the game.

Hughes led the Badgers with 14 points, while Joe Krabbenhoft added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Bohannon scored 10 points.

Samuel Haanpaa led 10-2 Valparaiso with 16 points, while Brandon McPherson added 14.

Valparaiso starting forward Urule Igbavboa and reserve forward Bryan Bouchie sat out much of the second half with foul trouble. They eventually fouled out.
