15th ranked Pointers take down Blue Devils, 88-57

MENOMONIE (January 9, 2013) - UW-Stout's Brea Boomer (So, Grand Portage, Minn) matched a career-high when she scored 22 points, but she was outdone by UW-Stevens Point's Sam Barber, who led the 15th ranked Pointers to a 31 point win over UW-Stout Wednesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Boomer did her best to bring the Blue Devils back, scoring 16 of her 22 points in the second half. For the game, she shot 8-13 from the field and 6-9 from the charity stripe.

Barber finished the night with 33 points and scored 20 points in the first half, leading the Pointers(12-3, 4-2) to a 41-28 lead. Barber scored six points, hitting a pair of three-pointers, in an early 8-0 run that gave Stevens Point a 15-6 lead five minutes into the game.

The Pointers jumped out to a 19-8 lead before Stout cut the lead to six points on a layup by Boomer and a three-pointer by Kyleigh Hebert (Fr, Spencer) to cut the lead to 19-13. The Pointers went on a 7-0 run to go up 26-13 and Stout got the lead under 10 points only once during the rest of the game.

Stevens Point was hot from the floor all night, shooting 55.6 percent (15-27) in the first half from the floor, including 4-9 from downtown, all by Barber. They continued their hot shooting in the second half, putting in 16-25 shots from the field, good for a 64 percent shooting percentage.

Stout was unable to overcome a poor shooting night, hitting only 30.8 percent (20-65) of their shots for the game and going just 2-21 from beyond the arc.

The Blue Devils were also out rebounded on the night, 43-31, dropping them to 1-8 on the year in games when their opponents grab more rebounds.
