Veteran longsnapper Rob Davis announced his retirement from the Packers on Wednesday and has been named the director of player development by general manager Ted Thompson, the team announced.
Davis, a 12-year veteran, was the Packers' longsnapper for 11 seasons and his 167 games played ranks third in team history behind Brett Favre (255) and Forrest Gregg (187).
Davis and Favre were the last remaining players from the 1997 Super Bowl team.
"This transition for me is an example of player development at work, as we try to assist players for life after football," Davis said in a statement. "I'm very grateful for the opportunity to have played 11 years for the best organization in professional sports, and I look forward to making an impact on the players I will work with."
