Bucks guard Michael Redd has been named to the 2008 Men’s Senior National Team 12-man roster that will represent the United States in this summer’s Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The announcement was made today by USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team managing director Jerry Colangelo.

Redd proved himself to be a valuable member of last summer’s Men’s Senior National Team when he averaged 14.4 points (4th on the team) during Team USA’s perfect 10-0 run at the FIBA Americas Championship 2007. He shot 53.0 percent from the field (53-100) and 45.3% from three-point range (29-64).

The other 11 players named to the 2008 USA Basketball Senior National Team were: Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets); Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz); Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors); Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers); Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic); LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers); Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks); Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets); Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons); Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat); and Deron Williams (Utah Jazz). Team USA is coached by Duke University head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Team USA will open its training June 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the 12 selected players participate in a mini-training camp at Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV. Following approximately a three-week break, the team will reconvene and resume training in Las Vegas on July 21, training daily through July 24 and capping the Las Vegas portion of their training on July 25 with the 2008 State Farm USA Basketball Challenge (vs. the Canadian National Team).

The Men’s Senior National Team will take part in the USA Basketball International Challenge in late July and early August, playing two games in Macao, China (vs. Turkey on July 31 and vs. Lithuania on August 1) and two games in Shanghai, China (vs. Russia on August 3 and vs. Australia on August 5). Team USA is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on August 6 and preliminary round play of the 2008 Olympics takes place August 10-18.

The men’s Olympic quarterfinals action takes place August 20, semifinals play is slated for August 22, and the Olympic men’s gold and bronze games will be held August 24.
