If this were a divorce proceeding, they'd be dividing up the silverware by now.

The Green Bay Packers and their three-time MVP quarterback Brett Favre appear to have irreconcilable differences.

Favre left Lambeau Field a few minutes before the Packers began yesterday's practice. The chances that he will ever again go into a huddle with the Pack appear slim.

The quarterback says his meeting with Packers head coach Mike McCarthy Monday night did not go smoothly.

Favre told ESPN he and the team are "at a stalemate" as the two sides try to determine his status for the upcoming season.

Favre added he and McCarthy both agreed that his presence at camp is a distraction.

Favre says he doesn't have a problem with competing for the starting quarterback job with Aaron Rodgers.

Favre also admits a competition "probably isn't going to work" and feels there has been a lot of damage done that he can't forget.

A trade could be next. Tampa Bay is re-emerging as a potential destination.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette is reporting Favre would accept a trade to the Buccaneers. McCarthy wouldn't address trade talk, but did say a quick resolution to the situation is "absolutely" important to the rest of his players.

We'll also have more information on our noon, five, and six newscasts.

For those of you saying that if you side with Brett and cease to be Packer fans if he is traded that you were never a fan to begin with, I say this: WAKE UP! The Packers were always an organization that took pride in being about family and community. They were a team that honored those who were loyal to their team. Here we have one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game (and may I say the greatest to ever wear the green and gold) wanting to rejoin the team and community he loves and he is being treated like a third string walk-on! Shame on the Green Bay Packers. I have bled green and gold for years and was always proud, never again. This team that was suppossed to be the only team "owned by the fans and community"? How is this so when the fans or community have no say in how this plays out?! What good do your stocks do when you can't help determine your team's future or how they treat their legends?! I sadly walk away from the Pack and the many years, along with Brett.

I think anyone who backs Farve should take a second to read the Yahoo.com Sports commentary by Mike S titled "Farve to blame for nasty divorce" There are somethings that people forget about who is really lying, cheating, and being deceitful...for example, remember when the report originally surfaced that Farve was having second thoughts. Farves text-message comment was "just rumors". LIE! Or how about "always dedicted to the packers" when he actually spitefully asked to be traded to an NFC North team so he could play the Packers twice a year. Dedicated?...LIE!! I will not deny that Farve is one of the greatest QB's of all time; however, all this is about now is publicity and "feel sorry for me because the Packers F.O. actually told me no." What happens when you tell a 2 year old no?? That's right...they pout, cry, throw a tantrum, lash back at their parents. Sounds like someone we know...FARVE! c-ya later Farve...good riddens!!

Favre doesn't want to play in Green Bay. He said so himself. He's always been emotional on the field and now he's acting like a baby. "Oh, I can't forget what they've said and done to me. They've lied." Please. You've been lying and denying all summer. It is clearly better for the team to trade him and get some value out of him than to have him stick around one more year and have him throw another 25 silly interceptions, including overtime of the NFC championship game. Who was that throw supposed to be for, anyway?

I just hope they gave Brett a can of white paint. That way he can spray a line up n down his back and then his name would really fit. A TRUE SKUNK!!!!!!!

Favre is an idiot for not thinking his retirement through. The Packers are doing what's in the TEAM's best interest. Let Favre be a washup for another team, for another year, until he retires AGAIN! I agree, if the only reason you're a "Packer fan" is because of Favre, then you're NOT a Packer fan!

I'm more than a fan, I'm an owner and I am disgusted with the way the Packer's organization has treated Brett Favre. As Packers we used to be different than other teams in the NFL, we were more like a family. Not so anymore, and that's very disheartening.

That Ted Thompson. Someone needs to fire him for what he has done to the Packer's Organization, along with Mark Murphy.

The packers are CRAZY if they let Brett go - he is the greatest. You don't see quarterback loyalty like he has shown the Packers. If Ted Thompson is pushing him out he is the biggest "JERK" that ever lived. I don't have any respect for Thompson - and I have all the respect in the world for Favre. I just hope he doesn't go to Minnesota and decides to stay in Wisconsin and still be a Packer - he will soon be the starting quarterback if he does. Aaron Rodgers can't play anywhere near as good as Brett Favre and never will. Wake up Ted Thompson - you are the one who should be leaving the Packer organization and not Brett. It sounds like Thompson has been giving Brett problems for years and he should be ashamed of himself - Brett is the best and can still break records like crazy - he proved that last year!

Give me a break!! "done being a Packer fan" = Never was a PACKER fan. Farve was also NOT the BEST thing to ever happen to the Packers! Farve was a fantastic QB for MOST of the years he played with the Packers; however, EVERYONE seems to forget that he's only one position. It also takes someone to catch his throws and make plays after they catch the ball...remember the stat the Pack was #1 in last year? YAC=Yards After the Catch...and Farve DIDN'T run those yards. It also takes a great defense to stop the opposing team and make big plays to give the offense good field position! Personally, I think Florida is a great place for Farve...isn't that where America's retired people go anyway?? He'll fit right in with the 38 year old washed up Garcia. I'll be staying a true Packer fan all the way to the playoffs this year with what will be another fantastic Packer Team!!

Shame on you people casting a stone, bad mouthing Brett. A big part of why we are once again title town USA, is because of four major people, that being Mike Holmgren, Ron Wolf, the great Reggie White, and yes number 4, Brett Favre. I have been a Packer fan all my life, and never did I ever think, anybody that is a fan, a coach, or a general manager of the Pack, would ever treat the greatest quarterback of all time this way. Shame on you all, and Brett, Im on your side. Thanks for all you have done for the entire NFL,the state of WI, and the Pack. Sincerely, Bob

If you will not be a Packers fan because Favre is not there, you never were a Packers fan. You were a Favre fan. Fine. Follow Favre into failed comeback oblivion, if you want to.

If people are not going to be Packer fans anymore over this deal with Bret, they never were TRUE Packer fans to begin with! I loved watching Favre play with GB also but he did retire and now wants to come back. Sorry but I don't feel sorry for him at all. He should have stayed retired.

The Packer organization and mostly Ted Thompson should be ashamed of themselves for treating the best thing that ever happened to the Green Bay area and the Packers. I will now be watching the Tampa Bay team. Be prepared for another injury on Aaron Rodgers. He's been Ted's man since he aquired him three years ago and the first two he was out for the year with injuries. Go Tampa Bay. I am also retired from the Packers

Class act? You have got to be kidding. The guy hung out in strip joints, drinking, and when at charity events was openly rude to small children. (I know individuals who personally witness these events, not once but several times) Favre should be more respectful to his ex-team mates. I couldn't stand the Packers bc of Favre now I have a new respect for them. Especially Aaron Rogers (sp?), NOW THERE IS A CLASS ACT. Favre is for Favre, he doesn't care about you or the Packers, MOVE ON!

GOOD BYE.,Now close the door and let Roger's do his part^^^^^^^^^

maybe they will save some money now that her is gone he was paid to much

If you are a true fan you believe in the TEAM, not in one player! Favre is acting like a spoiled little kid who's not getting his way go he's going to try to make it a bad decision on his part into a difficult battle for everyone involved. Trade his whiny butt to Antarctica and let him start a team there

Posted by: T Location: WI on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:22 PM
Love Favre. Love the Packers. This whole thing just makes me sad. His reputation and the teams reputation tarnished. And I can understand both sides.... It's like a nasty divorce and us fans are the children trying to decide which parent's side to be on.

Posted by: Tim Schmitt on Aug 5, 2008 at 08:15 PM
Brett, what used to be a class act has just gone down hill. You're retired. Stay that way.

Posted by: Sandy Location: Trempealeau, WI on Aug 5, 2008 at 06:04 PM
It is simple, if Favre is gone, I am done being a Packer fan. Hopefully, they had the courtesy to allow him to place somewhere where he will be appreciated.
