At least 92 men have made their way from baseball fields in Eau Claire to the major leagues. In a town that loves baseball and its history, they'll now receive recognition.

A group of volunteer baseball enthusiasts has received permission to build a hall of fame enclosure around the Hank Aaron statue at Carson Park.

The $125,000 project would be funded through donations, and honor nine men who made contributions to local baseball.

"The idea is to make this hall of fame accessible year round, anytime that they're in Eau Claire, day or night, they can stop by and see the Hank Aaron statue and see the recognition for the hall of fame inductees," says Phil Fieber, a committee member.

Fieber says since volunteers are working to fund the construction, the project could take a couple months or a couple years. The men honored by hall of fame plaques will be Tom Poquette, Vic Johnson, Harvey Tompter, Herman White, Glenn St. Arnault, Randall Bezanson, Howie Bullock, Andy Green, and Harold Kronenberg.

If you would like to make a contribution, contact the Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department at 839-5032 or mail it to:
