The University of Wisconsin football team has had a long history of dominant power running backs in the program, and as Coach Bret Bielema and offensive coordinator Paul Chryst look ahead to 2009, it appears that another star is ready to rise in Madison.
The early departure of P.J. Hill to the NFL wasn't considered a major loss because waiting in the wings is sophomore John Clay who is ready to carry the load in the Badgers backfield.
John Clay/Badgers Sophomore Running Back: "Nothing's guaranteed, we have to fight for what we want, what we're doing right now. We fighting as a family right now, but we all are trying to get that number one spot."
On the other side of the ball, the Badgers lost several defensive starters including tackle Mike Newkirk. Youth will be served in 2009 especially on the d-line.
Bret Bielema/Badgers Head Football Coach: "Different guys have been able to step in, a couple of new faces that hopefully will bring some energy and excitement, but really untested guys."
The Badgers have 12 more practices leading up to their annual spring game on Saturday, April 18th at Camp Randall Stadium.
