Cavaliers stay hot with 4-1 defeat of Chiefs

An early 1-0 deficit did not last long for the Eau Claire Cavaliers, who scored twice in the third inning to go on to a 4-1 win over the Winona Chiefs.
After playing scoreless baseball through the first two innings, Winona's Ben Schmit ripped a pitch from the Cavaliers Ben Kincaid over the fence in the top of the third inning, handing the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.
Eau Claire responded back in its half of the third, tying the score on an single from Ty Fadness. Following Fadness' run-scoring hit, Lance Poppy drove in his teammate with a ground ball that deflected off the glove of the Chiefs' third baseman.
Chase Graskewicz took care of Eau Claire's final run with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.
WIth the win, the Cavs improved their winning streak to 13 straight games. The victory also improves Eau Claire's overall record to 23-11.
The Cavaliers will host a doubleheader with the Kenosha Kings on Saturday at Carson Park. the first game of the twinbill is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
