Braun/Fielder named National League all-stars
The Milwaukee Brewers slugging duo of Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder will play in the 80th Major League Baseball all-star game in St. Louis on July 14th.

MILWAUKEE – Outfielder Ryan Braun and first baseman Prince Fielder have been selected to the 2009 National League All-Star Team, it was announced today by Major League Baseball. Both players will be making their second All-Star appearance (Braun in 2008 at Yankee Stadium and Fielder in 2007 at San Francisco).

Braun, who was named a starter after being the top vote-getter among outfielders with 4,138,599 votes, is batting .327 (99-for-303) with 16 HR and 58 RBI in 79 games played this season. He ranks among the National League leaders in runs (2nd, 58), hits (T3rd, 99), total bases (4th, 170), on-base percentage (6th, .410), batting average (7th), RBI (T7th), and slugging percentage (9th, .561).

Braun joins Robin Yount (1982-83) as the only Brewers players to start in consecutive All-Star Games.

Fielder, who is currently batting .310 (89-for-287) with 21 HR and 75 RBI, was named as an All-Star reserve. He is also among the N.L. league leaders in several categories, including runs (RBI, 2nd), total bases (2nd, 176), OPS (2nd, 1.046) extra-base hits (2nd, 43), on-base percentage (2nd, .433), slugging percentage (3rd, .613), walks (T4th, 59) and home runs (6th).

This year marks the 80th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which will be held on Tuesday, July 14 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
