Susan Bischoff scored 10 points and had nine rebounds today to lead Flambeau to a 40-to-37 victory over Wausau Newman in the Division Four semifinals of the state high school girls basketball tournament.
The victory improved the Falcons' record to 25-and-1 as they bid for a second straight state championship.
Bischoff defended on the game-tying shot in the final minute, when Newman's Val Schuster had the ball inside.
The score at the time was 39-to-37 and, following the miss by Schuster, freshman Courtney Wanish hit a free throw with 19 seconds to play.
The Falcons had a chance to tie, but a three-point try went awry and a final shot at the buzzer would have resulted in only two points.
Schuster's 13 points led Newman, which dropped to 20-and-5.
