It was an exciting evening for boys basketball teams across Western Wisconsin Saturday night as four teams punched their tickets to the WIAA State Tournament in Madison. In Division 3, Eau Claire Regis will make their first-ever trip to the WIAA State tournament after the Ramblers beat Webster 57-43 in the Eau Claire North sectional final. Killian Murphy and Paul Mertens led the Ramblers with 15 points apiece, while Matt DeMars added 7 including a half-court shot at the halftime buzzer that gave Regis an 11-point lead. The Ramblers will take on Racine St. Catherine's in Thursday's state semifinals. Also moving on in Division 3, La Crosse Aquinas, the Blugolds defeated Wisconsin Heights 67-50. Aquinas will take on Manitowoc Roncalli in the other D3 state semifinal. Meanwhile, in Division 4, the Gilman Pirates are going to Madison after beating Butternut 57-41 in the Spooner sectional final. While at the Onalaska sectional, the Eleva-Strum Cardinals advanced to state for the second year in a row after beating River Ridge 80-56.
