University of New Mexico pitchers Shane Dyer and Bobby LaFromboise will join their teammate Ian Hollick with the Eau Claire Express this summer, it was announced today by Field Manager and Director of Operations Dale Varsho.
Dyer, a freshman at UNM, has made five appearances this season including three starts on the mound. The right-hander has a record of 1-1 with a 5.54 ERA. He has struck out seven in 13 innings of work so far this season.
Dyer is a native of Eaton, CO and attended Eaton High School where he was a two-time 3A first team all-state selection. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 24th round in last year’s MLB Draft. Dyer went a combined 27-3 in his last three years at Eaton High School with his team winning the state championship his sophomore season.
LaFromboise is a junior in his first season with the Lobos after coming over from Rio Hondo Community College. The left-hander has made seven appearances, including six starts for the Lobos and has a 3-1 record. He leads the team with 42 strikeouts and has a 3.48 ERA in 44 innings pitched. LaFromboise also had a complete game shutout this season against Texas State. He was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week on February 19th after leading the Lobos to an upset win over then No. 7-ranked Nebraska.
At Rio Hondo, LaFromboise went 12-3 with 112 strikeouts in 2006. He was named to the 2006 Junior College Preseason All-American team in 2006 and was also drafted in the 24th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox.
LaFromboise is a native of Downey, CA where he attended Warren High School. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the San Gabriel Valley League on two occasions and led his team to the playoffs his last three years.
New Mexico has three-game series against the University of Utah beginning on Friday.
