Memorial Girls Soccer Preview

THE EAU CLAIRE MEMORIAL GIRLS SOCCER TEAM HAS PUT WESTERN WISCONSIN SWIPERS AND STOPPERS ON THE MAP.
THE OLD ABES HAVE COME OH-SO-CLOSE TO A STATE TITLE THE PAST TWO SEASONS.
THUS, IT'S NO SURPRISE THEY ARE EXCITED TO BEGIN THE 2007 SEASON...
TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY TWO DAYS HAVE PASSED SINCE THE END OF THE 2006 SEASON AND EACH DAY HAS BEEN LIKE AN ETERNITY FOR THE MEMORIAL GIRLS SOCCER TEAM.
Katie Bethke/Old Abes Senior Forward"We're all just pumped. We've had our countdown since the first day of school and our agendas. We just can't wait to get out and play."
Paige Pearson/Reporting
"One thing that isn't far from the Abes minds is that heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to Appleton North in the state quarterfinals last season."
"We worked so hard only to get beat on a free kick, but those things happen and it's a great lesson to learn, we regroup, and don't dwell on it."
Andrea Hull/Old Abes Senior Captain
"I think that game showed us that we need to keep stepping it up."
BY STEPPING IT UP THE ABES MEAN WINNING THEIR SEVENTH STRAIGHT B-R-C TITLE AND GETTING BACK TO STATE.
HOWEVER, IT WILL HAVE TO BE WITHOUT FOUR KEY PLAYERS, WHO THEY LOST TO GRADUATION.
Kit Schiefelbein/Old Abes Head Coach
"The important thing right now is integrating. We have two freshmen, three sophomores, just working on our team unity."
ONE PLAYER MEMORIAL WILL HAVE BACK IS FORWARD KATIE BETHKE.
THE SENIOR PHENOM RECORDED FIFTY GOALS LAST SEASON AND IS HEADED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA NEXT YEAR.
"She elevates our team. She's put her time in and her commitment is so phenominal."
ALONG WITH BETHKE, THE ABES WILL FOCUS ON THEIR ATTACKING DEFENSE, WHICH HELD OPPONENTS TO A TOTAL OF 24 GOALS LAST SEASON.
Carrie Kishaba/Old Abes Senior Captain
"I'm really excited. This is going to be a really good year, everyone worked really hard in the offseason."
"We want to end this season the way we've tried to the last couple of seasons."
THAT ENDING OF COURSE WOULD FEATURE THE OLD ABES FIRST-EVER GOLD BALL.
