After sweeping Rib Lake 3-0 in last Saturday's WIAA Division 4 sectional final, the Chippewa Falls McDonell girls volleyball team is preparing to make their first-ever appearance at the state tournament Friday.

During the regular season, the Macks posted a 35-3 mark, including a perfect 8-0 record in the Western Cloverbelt to give them the conference title. As the No. 1 seed in their regional, McDonell would knock off Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran to earn a regional championship prior to their sectional final victory over Rib Lake.

Macks head coach Kat Roesler said her team accomplished a major goal by earning a berth at the state tournament.

"I don't really know if I can describe it, hasn't sunk in yet," Roesler said. "To be any sport from a Catholic school to go to the WIAA state tournament is a huge accomplishment. We're one of four teams left in the state right now, we've accomplished one of our goals, but we still have one more goal to accomplish on our list."

McDonell will take on Manitowoc Lutheran in a WIAA Division 4 state semifinal Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Resch Center in Green Bay. The winner will move on to face either Wausau Newman or Highland in the state championship match.
