Rottino Vows Return to Majors

For a moment last Sunday disappointment flashed in Vinny Rottino's eyes. The former UWL standout was oh-so-close to making the Brewers 25-man roster, but instead will start the season in the minor leagues.

"I'm not going to let this deter me from working hard and striving to get back here, not at all," says Vinny Rottino.

"Anybody that made it this long and has been working hard it's not like he isn't good enough, and I'm sure Vinny will be back some time," says Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks.

Speaking of work ethic, Rottino's is catching a lot of attention. Manager Ned Yost has joked that Vinny was the first player in the history of the game to take 500 spring training at-bats. But it came as no surprise to the former La Crosse Eagle.

"I came from a Division 3 school four or five years ago, I dreamed of being here and it can become a reality if you work hard," says Rottino.

Signed as a non-draft free agent in 2003, the twenty-six year-old has worked his way up through the minor league ranks. And even though he's headed back to Triple A, Rottino wants to contribute to the Brewers this season.

"This team is going to win a lot of games, and I'll just be getting ready down in Nashville. I'll be ready to help out," says Rottino.

As for the guy that did get the nod.

"I don't want to see Vinny go but at the same time I'm happy for myself," says Tony Gwynn Jr.

"It speaks volumes about the depth of the Brewers in 2007. There's probably guys that got sent down before me that think they should play in the big leagues," says Rottino.

So for now Nashville is home for Rottino but the Racine native and lifelong Brewers fan says it won't be for long because he wants to be part of a Brewers winning club.
