Dan Monson Headed West

Long Beach State spokesman Niall Adler confirmed the hire today. Athletic director Vic Cegles says he's thrilled to have Monson leading the team.

Monson will replace Larry Reynolds, whose contract was not renewed despite a 24-and-8 record, the Big West Conference championship and advancing to the N-C-A-A tournament.

The 45-year-old Monson resigned after seven seasons at Minnesota, leaving in November after a 2-and-5 start. He was 118-106 overall at Minnesota, but just 44-and-68 in the Big Ten since.

Monson joined the Gophers in 1999 after leading Gonzaga to the Elite Eight. He was 52-17 in two seasons at Gonzaga.
