Yankees Throttle Twins 8-2
The New York Yankees scored early and often in beating the Twins Monday night at the Metrodome 8-2.

Bobby Abreu drove in four runs as the New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 8-to-2 in the opener of their three-game series at the Metrodome.

Abreu went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, Jorge Posada hit a two-run double, and Derek Jeter had three hits and scored two runs.

Carl Pavano gave up six hits and two runs in seven efficient innings for the win. He struck out two without a walk over 79 pitches.

Sidney Ponson took the loss for Minnesota, giving up ten hits and eight runs in five-and-two-thirds innings.

Jason Kubel drove in a run with a fifth-inning single, and Torii Hunter doubled home Joe Mauer in the seventh for Minnesota's only runs.
