Ramon Ortiz held the Yankees to a run and three hits in eight innings to move to 2-and-0. He also ended Alex Rodriguez's home run streak at four games, although Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth for his major league-leading 16th R-B-I.
Yankees starting pitcher Mike Mussina had to leave the game in the third inning after straining his left hamstring. He departed after allowing singles to Luis Rodriguez and Alexi Casilla leading off the third.
Sean Henn held the Twins to a run over the next three and a-third. But the Twins scored four times in the eighth off loser Kyle Farnsworth to salvage the series finale.
The game was tied 1-to-1 until Joe Mauer and Michael Cuddyer hit R-B-I singles. Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter followed with run-scoring doubles later in the inning.
