The UW-L Basketball standout and 2006 WIAC player of the year is now training for football.
The Chippewa Falls native, who hasn't played organized football since his sophomore year of high school, worked out for a Packers scout last week and according to Werner's trainer, several other NFL teams are interested.
At 6'6" and 250lbs., Werner would likely play at the tight end position.
During his session with the Packers scout, Werner ran a 4.7 40 yard dash, which would have been the second fastest time at this year's NFL combine for tight ends. He also turned in a 36 inch vertical jump.
Werner says he's been told that his chances for playing at the next level are good, so for now he's working on his footwork, pass routes and strength and speed.
