The McDonell Macks football team had their final run through in Chippewa Falls Tuesday evening before they head to Madison for Thursday's Division 7 state championship game against Burlington Catholic Central.
These same two schools met in last spring's Division 4 state baseball tournament with Catholic Central beating McDonell in the semifinals.
As for football, the Hilltoppers are the defending state champs, but the Macks are a confident group, and feel like they have the playmakers to bring home the gold trophy.
Andy Davis/Macks QB/DB: "We'll have to establish the run first to open up the pass. If we're able to do that, I don't think anybody is going to stop us. We have nothing to lose, so we'll try our hardest to bring back victory."
Jake McIlquham/Macks TE/DE: "Defensively, we need to keep the quarterback inside the pocket. Make sure he doesn't get outside and run on us. That's probably where he'll hurt us the most."
Todd Brown/Macks Head Coach: "Our defense needs to control the line of scrimmage and eliminate the big plays. Offensively is control the line of scrimmage and be able to run our pass effectively in both."
