Wildcats preparing to face white-hot Ramblers offense
Even with one of the best defenses in the state, the Edgar football team will face a unit just as powerful. The Wildcats will be up against the double-wing offense of Eau Claire Regis, a group averaging almost 47 points per game in the postseason.

The Eau Claire Regis football team will try to bring home their second WIAA state championship Thursday afternoon, when the Ramblers battle unbeaten Edgar in the Division 6 title game.

Taking down the Wildcats won't be an easy task for Regis. A vaunted Edgar defense has allowed only 13 points all season while shutting out 11 opponents. Still, Edgar coach Jerry Sinz knows his squad will have its hands full with the Ramblers double-wing offense, a unit averaging nearly 47 points per game in four postseason wins.

"Obviously, we haven't played anybody that runs the offense that they run and they seem to be running it better and better as the year goes on," Sinz said. "It's pretty simple for them because they don't have a lot of variety of things to remember. Yeah, we're going to have our work cut out for us defending it. It will be something very different that we've seen thus far."

While Edgar will face a unique challenge come Saturday, the Wildcat players say their strategy will be sticking to the principles that earned them a second chance at a state championship.

"We haven't seen an offense quite like this, but I think our defense is well-prepared for it," said Wildcats senior Derek Durkee. "We push each other hard in practice each day, they know their keys and everything. If they do what they're supposed to do, we'll have a great time."

Eau Claire Regis and Edgar will play for the Division 6 state title at 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Watch WEAU 13 News throughout the day on Thursday for complete coverage of the Division 5, 6 and 7 state championship games.
